A 33-year-old police officer allegedly shot himself to death with his service rifle at a city police station on Friday. The incident became known around 11 in the morning.

According to the PTI report, the deceased identified Like Bharat Asmar, he was on night duty at the Lohiya Nagar police chowky (sub-station) in Shukrawar Peth area, a senior official said. “He told a colleague that he had a headache and that he wanted to lie down in the staff bathroom on the first floor of the chowky. Asmar was married and has a daughter, the official said, adding that no suicide note was recovered but it is suspected that he took the extreme step for personal reasons.

In a similar incident in February, a 40-year-old police officer allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service revolver at a police station in the city of Nashik. Inspector Ashok Najan reported to work at Ambad police station in the morning and reportedly He shot himself in his cabin.

The police inspector was found dead by his colleagues at the police station. Police officers present at the police station took Najan to the nearby district hospital.
