The 17-year-old boy involved in the Pune car accident in which two IT professionals were killed has submitted a 300-word essay on road safety to meet his bail conditions with the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB), an official said on Friday. The official told PTI that the teenage accused in the Pune car accident submitted the essay to the JJB on Wednesday.

The boy was released from a care home last month after the Bombay High Court ruled that orders sending him there were invalid.

Following the car accident in Pune at Kalyani Nagar on May 19, the JJB had initially placed him in the care of his parents and grandfather and required him to prepare an essay on road safety, according to the PTI report.

According to police sources, the teenager was driving a Porsche under the influence of alcohol when he collided with a motorcycle, killing two software developers.

Responding to public outrage over his quick release on seemingly generous terms, the police requested the Judah Judicial Board to modify the bail decision in the Pune car accident case. On May 22, the board ruled that the teenager be placed in an observation centre.

The High Court later overturned the verdict, calling the directives unconstitutional and stressing the importance of comprehensive implementation of juvenile legislation.

A senior official had earlier said that the Pune Police wants to appeal in the Supreme Court against the Bombay High Court’s decision to release the 17-year-old boy involved in the Pune car accident.

On June 25, the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) decided to place the boy in an observation home, but the High Court ordered his immediate release, stating that juvenile statutes must be strictly followed, according to PTI.

Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar told PTI that the police would file an appeal in the Supreme Court against the High Court decision.

According to the PTI report, the boy’s grandfather and parents are being held on charges related to the Pune car accident. These charges include alleged sharing of blood samples and kidnapping and wrongful detention of a family driver who was intimidated into taking the blame for the collision.
