A woman allegedly poisoned her 9-month-old son, who survived, before hanging herself. Chandrapur district, Maharashtraan official said on Saturday, PTI reported.

Chandrapur police have registered a case against the woman’s husband and in-laws after her mother accused them of harassing her daughter.

According to PTI, the woman identified as Pallavi Vinod Dhoke, 27, fed her baby insecticide and hanged herself at her matrimonial home in Shegaon (Bk) village, about 60 km from the district headquarters, on Friday night when other family members were away.

After returning home, her relatives called the police, who took Pallavi and the baby to a hospital, where doctors declared her dead, according to the official. The baby was shifted to a private hospital in Chandrapur and she is said to be stable, according to PTI.

However, Pallavi’s mother accused her in-laws of torturing her daughter for money. Following her complaint, the police registered a case against Pallavi’s husband and her parents, the official said, the news agency reported on Saturday.

A case of accidental death has been registered and further investigations are underway, the news agency reported earlier.
