Delhi Chief Minister Arvind KejriwalSunita, his wife, on Sunday appealed to the public as “daughter of Mother India” to vote against the “dictatorship” and save democracy, according to PTI.
While seeking support for Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Mahabal Mishra in the West Delhi constituency, she called her husband a “lion” whom no one can break.
Sunita Kejriwal, standing through the sunroof of a vehicle, waved to voters as they showered her with flower petals.
He said Arvind Kejriwal was jailed because he built schools, provided free electricity and opened Mohalla clinics, according to PTI.
“Your Prime Minister is a ‘sher’ (lion). No one can break him or break him. He is the son of Mother India. As the daughter of Mother India, I request you to vote against the dictatorship and save democracy. Please understand the value of their vote,” he said, the news agency reported on Sunday.
With Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal behind bars in a money laundering case linked to the Delhi excise policy case, his wife continues to spearhead the AAP election campaign and tour.
Sunita Kejriwal will also reportedly campaign for AAP candidates in South Delhi and New Delhi constituencies as well as in Gujarat, Haryana and Punjab, party leaders said, according to PTI.
AAP organizes ‘Walk for Kejriwal’ protest
Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party on Sunday held a walk called ‘Walk for Kejriwal’ in support of Arvind Kejriwal.
The protest walk was organized at Delhi’s CR Park.
AAP supporters were seen carrying flags with Kejriwal’s photograph and the slogan “Jail ka jawab vote se”, ANI reported.
Delhi minister and AAP leader Atishi told ANI: “People of Delhi have come here to support Arvind Kejriwal. The BJP thought that if Arvind Kejriwal was jailed, the AAP would not be able to conduct election campaigns. .But people of Delhi are campaigning for Arvind Kejriwal.
Party leader Saurabh Bharadwaj, who also participated, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi is very nervous.
“We are carrying out a campaign in Delhi called ‘Jail ka jawaab vote se’ against the arrest of Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal. Our youth wing, our Lok Sabha candidates from South Delhi and New Delhi have organized a walk. The first Minister Narendra Modi is very nervous. His change of stance in his election rallies makes it clear that he too believes that the opposition will come to power,” he said, according to ANI.
Taking a dig at the BJP, he said, “We have installed a washing machine here, and if you put any corrupt politician in this machine, it comes out clean.”
The Delhi Chief Minister has been lodged in Tihar jail since April 1, following his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in the Delhi excise policy case.
