The Narendra Modi government’s decision to repeal Article 370 is yielding results in poll percentages in Jammu and Kashmir and has improved people’s confidence in democracy, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Tuesday. .
The Home Minister’s comments came a day after around 38 per cent polling was recorded in the Srinagar Lok Sabha constituency, where polling was held in the fourth phase of the general elections.
Srinagar recorded 14.43 per cent votes in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, 25.86 per cent in 2014, 25.55 per cent in 2009 and 18.57 per cent in 2004.
“Modi government’s decision to abrogate Article 370 is showing results in poll percentages too. People’s confidence in democracy has increased and its roots have deepened in Jammu and Kashmir,” he wrote in “X” .
Shah said that through the increase in poll percentage, the people of Jammu and Kashmir have given a befitting response to those who opposed the abrogation of the provisions of Article 370 and are still advocating for its restoration.
The Modi government repealed Article 370, which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir, in 2019 and divided the erstwhile state into two Union Territories: Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
