Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Atishi came down heavily on the Election Commission (EC) after it was served a show-cause notice on Friday. Atishi questioned whether the EC was a “subsidiary organization” of the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP).

According to the PTI report, the EC notified Atishi for her comments that the BJP had approached her to join the party or be prepared to be arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) within a month.

At a press conference, the The AAP leader alleged that The BJP leaked the notice to the media an hour before the EC emailed it to them. He also questioned why the EC did not notify the central agencies concerned after Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was arrested and Congress’ bank accounts were frozen just before the elections, PTI reported.

Atishi also stated that He wrote several letters to the election panel about the BJP’s objectionable hoardings and posters, but no action was taken. He stated that he will respond to the EC notice by recalling the neutrality and non-partisanship expected from the panel to ensure free and fair elections in the country.

In its notice, the poll panel asked Atishi to back up with facts her claim that the BJP approached her to join the party. The BJP moved the election commission against Atishi’s claim made on April 2, according to the PTI report.

Meanwhile, in Maharashtra, the Congress has formally lodged a complaint with the Pune collectorate against the distribution of ‘Viksit Bharat’ pamphlets in the city’s Karve Nagar neighbourhood.

Maharashtra Congress vice-president Mohan Joshi stated that the Election Commission had issued orders last month asking the Union government to prevent the spread of ‘Viksit Bharat’ propaganda, PTI reported.

Joshi emphasized the importance of conducting thorough research into the sources and distribution methods of these books and recommended immediate action.
