The Konkan Railway is planting 5,000 saplings this year to combat the heat wave. Konkan Railway celebrated World Environment Day with major green initiatives and has a long-standing commitment to environmental sustainability, including tree plantation along its route.
“This year’s efforts are part of these continuous and concerted efforts to contribute positively to the environment. By planting 5,000 saplings, KRCL aims to contribute towards the improvement of the environment and beautification of the railway network. This year witnessed a worrying increase in heat levels, underscoring the urgent need for collective action for environmental conservation,” a KR spokesperson said.
“By planting these saplings, Konkan Railway aims to play its role in mitigating the effects of climate change and promoting a healthier and greener planet. A tree plantation drive was also carried out at Konkan Rail Vihar in Seawoods, Navi Mumbai, which marks a significant step towards environmental conservation,” he said.
The event was graced by the esteemed presence of Chief Guest, Shri B Venugopal Reddy, IAS, Principal Secretary (Forest), Maharashtra and Guests of Honour, Shri Vivek Khandekar, IFS, Addl. Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Pune and Ms K Pratibha, Chief Conservator of Forests, Thane. Shri Santosh Kumar Jha, Chairman and Managing Director, KRCL, executives, members and staff of Mahila Samiti actively participated in the tree plantation drive.
