Amid the ongoing Lok Sabha elections in 2024, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday said that if his party is elected to power at the Centre, they will remove the 50 per cent reservation limit and increase it further further.
While speaking at the rally for 2024 Lok Sabha elections in Madhya Pradesh, Khargone Rahul Gandhi said, “Modi Ji wants to end his reservation. His (BJP) leaders have clearly said that if our (BJP) government comes, we will snatch reservations to tribals, Dalits and backward classes, and do away with reservations. They are talking about snatching away. Today there is a 50 per cent limit for reservations, we will cross this limit, we will cancel the 50 per cent limit and increase their reservation. , the reserve of the poor.”
He also said that if their government is formed in the country, they will deposit Rs 1 lakh in the bank account of women from the poorest families in the country every year until the day that family crosses the poverty line.
“A list of all the poor in India will be made. A list will be made from every poor family. He also said that the Congress Party has decided to provide employment opportunities to all graduates in the country for one year.
“We have taken a revolutionary decision in our manifesto. The scheme is called ‘Pehli Naukri Pakki’. Just as we have right to employment under MGNREGA, similarly, we are going to give a job for one year to Indian graduates. They will be trained in it… and if you have done a good job, then the job will be confirmed, it will become permanent. There are 30 lakh jobs in the government, we will reserve them for you and give you employment,” he said. .
He also announced that if his government is formed, they would increase the payment under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) from Rs 250 to Rs 400.
“Today you will get Rs 250 for MGNREGA, after elections you will get Rs 400,” he said.
“We are going to end the contract system in government and in the public sector. If you get a job, you will get a permanent job,” he said.
He also promised to forgive poor farmers’ debt and enact a Minimum Support Price law if his government is formed.
“We are going to do two things for India’s farmers: first, right after the elections, we are going to forgive the debt of India’s poor farmers. The second thing, for the first time in India’s history, price legal minimum support (MSP), which means we will enact a law that prohibits purchasing produce from a farmer below a certain price,” he said.
The 2024 Lok Sabha elections in Madhya Pradesh will be held in four phases. The first phase of voting was held on April 19 and the second phase concluded on April 26.
The next two phases will take place on May 7 and 13. The counting of votes will take place on June 4.
With 29 Lok Sabha constituencies, Madhya Pradesh ranks sixth among all states in terms of representation in the Lower House. Of them, 10 seats are reserved for SC and ST candidates, while the remaining 19 are unreserved.
