Casting his vote at a polling booth in Patiala on Saturday, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate from Patiala Lok Sabha seat Dr Balbir Singh said one should be very thoughtful while voting and urged voters to choose to the appropriate representative and party.
“It is our democratic right to vote… We must be very thoughtful while voting… Voters must choose the right representative and party… We (AAP) will win all 13 Lok Sabha seats in Punjab,” Singh said. When asked about the intense heat conditions, he said: “When people go with the motivation that comes with our leaders, then the heat doesn’t matter, it comes and goes, we continue doing our job.”
When asked about his party’s victory, he said: “We are going to win my 13/0 because our work will speak, we have reduced the electricity bill to zero and people are receiving medicine for free. The new candidates will work on several issues including drinking water, sewage and other issues.”
The seventh and final phase on June 1 witnessed voting in the constituencies of Gurudaspur, Amritsar, Khadoor Sahib, Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Nandpur Sahib, Ludhiana, Fatehgarh Sahib, Faridkot, Firozpur, Bathinda, Sangrur and Patiala. In the previous 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the INC-led UPA alliance won eight seats with a vote share of 40.6 per cent, while the NDA managed to secure four with a vote share of 9.7.
The AAP, in its debut, got one seat. In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and AAP won 4 seats each, while Congress won 3 seats. The BJP only got two seats.
The counting of votes will take place on June 4. Voting for the previous six phases of the Lok Sabha elections was held on April 19, April 26, May 7, May 13, May 20 and May 25. Assembly elections were also held in Andhra. Pradesh, Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh.
Simultaneous Lok Sabha and assembly elections will also be held in Odisha in the last four phases. The final phase elections began at 7 am on Saturday in all 57 parliamentary constituencies spread across seven states and the Union Territory of Chandigarh.
According to the Election Commission of India, more than 10.06 million voters, including approximately 5.24 million male voters, 4.82 million female voters and 3,574 third gender voters, are expected to exercise their right to vote.
