Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s web series Heeramandi The Diamond Bazaar is being liked a lot. This series is getting good response from critics and audience. However, filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri has criticized it. He also commented on social media that this series has glorified the life of the prostitutes whereas their life is full of injustice and pain. Now Snehil Dixit, who is the additional director of the series, has reacted to Vivek’s comment.
What did Snehil say?
Speaking to News 18, Snehil Dixit Mehra said, ‘I think he has not seen the series. Hiramandi has not shown the courtesans in a good light. The show takes place during the 1920s and 1940s. Courtesans were in vogue at that time.
Tawaif was powerful
Snehil told that the research done by the writing team along with Bhansali revealed that courtesans were like queens at that time. She said, ‘We did a lot of research before making the show. During research, we came to know that courtesans were very rich at that time and they paid more taxes than the Nawabs. He had so much money and power that even Nawabs and leaders sought advice from him. At that time, women who belonged to good families used to remain veiled and learn the art of tawaif, write and study. Tawaifs were very intelligent women. He had a powerful position in the society.
We just tried to show this story. In this we did not try to show the courtesans as very good. Vivek should first watch the series and understand what we are telling, only then he should comment.
Snehil is also a content creator

I very proudly showed them my videos and said that I do this on the side. He laughed a lot.
