“We are going to have a meeting with our partners tomorrow. These questions will be raised and answered there,” Rahul Gandhi said at a press conference here when asked if the Congress and its allies would approach the parties that are part of the NDA. to try to form a government, according to the PTI.
Rahul Gandhi was addressing the press conference with senior Congress leaders as the Lok Sabha poll results and trends showed that the BJP would become the largest party but would not reach the magic figure of 272.
“We will not say anything without asking the opinion of our allies. Our alliance will decide tomorrow and whatever they decide we will act accordingly,” he said, according to PTI.
He also said that the 2024 Indian general election was a fight to save the Constitution and that “India’s poorest and most backward rose up to save the Constitution.”
Mandate on poll results against PM Modi: Congress chief Kharge
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Tuesday termed the Lok Sabha election result as a mandate against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and a political and moral defeat for the BJP, PTI reported on Tuesday.
At a news conference here, he said the results are a victory for the people and democracy.
The BJP-led NDA was ahead with over 290 seats, while the opposition bloc INDIA was leading with 232 parliamentary seats.
“This is the result of the public and the victory of the public and democracy. We had been saying that this battle is between the public and Modi. We humbly accept the mandate of the people,” Kharge told reporters at the AICC headquarters, flanked by Congress. leaders Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi.
Kharge said voters did not give a complete majority to any party, particularly the BJP, which sought votes on the basis of “one person, one face”.
“This is their (BJP’s) political and moral defeat,” he said.
He said that the government machinery created obstacles in the path of the opposition alliance.
Mallikarjun Kharge said people realized the “lies” spread by Prime Minister Modi on the Congress manifesto.
