According to the Electoral Commission’s list, President Murmu will invite the largest party to form the government.
As reported by ANI, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) on Wednesday unanimously passed a resolution to elect Narendra Modi as its leader for the third time. This decision was taken during a crucial meeting held at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Delhi on Wednesday, June 5.
The NDA leaders expressed their admiration for Prime Minister Modi’s leadership and the progress made by the nation under his leadership over the last decade.
Meanwhile, following the recommendation of the Union Cabinet, President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday dissolved the 17th Lok Sabha, the agency reported.
A statement issued by Rashtrapati Bhavan on Wednesday read: “The President accepted the advice of the Cabinet on June 5, 2024 and signed the Order dissolving the 17th Lok Sabha in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by Sub-Clause (2) of the Article 85 of the Constitution.”
Prime Minister Modi submitted his resignation along with his Council of Ministers to President Murmu on the same day. Accepting Prime Minister Modi’s resignation, President Murmu requested that the Prime Minister and his Council of Ministers continue until the new government takes office.
The recount for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections took place on Tuesday. According to the Election Commission of India, the BJP won 240 seats, far below the 303 it won in 2019. For the first time since the Party Bharatiya Janata came to power in 2014, it did not get a majority on its own.
Congress, for its part, registered strong growth, obtaining 99 seats. The INDIA block crossed the 230 mark, posing tough competition and defying all predictions.
In Maharashtra, after the BJP’s Lok Sabha tally fell from 23 to 9, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis offered to resign from his post. He expressed his desire to focus on the party’s work ahead of the upcoming assembly elections, taking full responsibility for the election results.
Fadnavis acknowledged his role in the BJP’s poor performance in the Maharashtra Lok Sabha elections. He claimed that he takes full responsibility for the setback and admitted that there were deficiencies in his approach which he aims to fix before the assembly elections.
In the Lok Sabha elections, Congress won 13 seats, Shiv Sena (UBT) won 9 seats and NCP (Sharad Pawar) won 8 seats. The BJP won 9 seats, the Shiv Sena (Shinde) won 7 and the NCP (Ajit Pawar) won only 1 seat, illustrating the change in voter preferences in Maharashtra.
