To relieve the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) and Mahayuti candidates, some senior candidates withdrew their candidature. Lok Sabha Elections 2024 in Dindori and Nashik constituencies in Maharashtra on Monday, PTI reported.
Monday, May 6, was the last day for withdrawal of nominations for the two Lok Sabha seats, which will go to polls in the fifth phase of the general elections on May 20, as reported by PTI.
Former CPI(M) MLA JP Gavit withdrew his nomination and extended his support to NCP (SP) MVA candidate Bhaskar Bhagare in Dindori constituency.
“The MVA had given the seat to the NCP (SP). I filed my nomination from the CPI(M), but they asked for only one candidate from the alliance. Therefore, I withdrew my nomination,” JP Gavit said. journalists, according to the PTI.
Former BJP MP Harishchandra Chavan, who rebelled and filed his nomination as an independent candidate in Dindori, withdrew his candidature citing health reasons.
Harishchandra Chavan’s candidature would have created problems for Mahayuti candidate and Union Minister Dr Bharati Pawar as he enjoys huge influence in the constituency, according to the PTI.
The two withdrawals have sparked a direct battle between Bharati Pawar of the BJP and Bhaskar Bhagare of the NCP (SP) in Dindori.
The MVA comprises Shiv Sena (UBT), NCP (SP) and Congress, while Ajit Pawar-led BJP, Shiv Sena and NCP have formed the Mahayuti alliance.
In the Nashik Lok Sabha constituency, NCP candidate Nivrutti Aringale and BJP’s Anil Jadhav withdrew their nominations to make way for two-time MP Hemant Godse of the Shiv Sena.
Shiv Sena (UBT) Leader Vijay Karanjkar also withdrew his nomination and joined the Shiv Sena.
Five of 15 candidates withdrew their nominations in Dindori, and five of 36 candidates withdrew from the contest in Nashik, Maharashtra.
Meanwhile, campaigning in Maharashtra for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections ended on Sunday for polls in 11 seats that are scheduled for May 7, PTI reported.
The seats include a high-stakes battle in Baramati, where Sharad Pawar’s daughter Supriya Sule is pitted against Sunetra Pawar, wife of veteran Maharashtra leader and MP CM Ajit Pawar’s estranged nephew.
