The Supreme Court on Friday granted Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal interim bail till June 1 for campaigning in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. A bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta announced its verdict.
The court reportedly said that Kejriwal, who has been arrested in a money laundering case related to the alleged Delhi excise policy case, will have to surrender and return to prison on June 2.
According to the report, the Supreme Court had rejected the plea of lawyer Abhishek Singhvi, appearing for Kejriwal, seeking interim bail till June 5, a day after the election results are announced. of Lok Sabha 2024.
The top court was hearing Kejriwal’s bail plea after the latter challenged the Delhi High Court verdict last month that upheld his arrest in the Delhi excise policy case.
The case pertains to alleged corruption and money laundering in the formulation and execution of the Delhi government’s now scrapped excise policy for 2021-22.
