TMC workers are “forcing” West Bengal’s Sandeshkhali women to withdraw their complaints in view of the ongoing Lok Sabha elections, the NCW claimed, seeking an Election Commission probe into the matter.
Multiple alleged videos of Sandeshkhali women shared by the TMC on Thursday claimed that a local BJP leader made those women sign blank papers, which were then filled in as complaints of sexual assault.
The women in those alleged videos claimed that BJP worker Piyali Das asked them to appear in person at the local police station and narrate their ordeal before the National Commission for Women (NCW) team, which had visited Sandeshkhali to assess the situation on the ground. .
TMC to complain against NCW chief
The Trinamool Congress on Friday said it will file a formal complaint with the Election Commission against National Women’s Commission chairperson Rekha Sharma over allegations of atrocities committed against women in West Bengal’s Sandeshkhali.
The NCW had recommended President Droupadi Murmu to impose his rule in West Bengal over alleged violence and atrocities committed against women in Sandeshkhali. “TMC will go to the EC against Rekha Sharma, who is the NCW president,” West Bengal minister’s spokesperson Shashi Panja said.
