Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday said that the ongoing Lok Sabha elections are aimed at saving the country’s Constitution, news agency PTI reported.
He claimed that the BJP and the RSS want to change the constitution while addressing a public meeting in Jobat town in Alirajpur district under Ratlam-Jhabua Lok Sabha seat in Madhya Pradesh.
According to the report, the tribal-dominated Ratlam-Jhabua seat is scheduled to go to polls in the fourth phase on May 13.
Furthermore, Gandhi said that the Congress government will ensure the 50 percent cap in the reservation is eliminated in the interest of the people.
“These elections are being held to save the Constitution of the country. The BJP and the RSS want to change it, but the Congress and the (opposition) INDIA alliance are trying to save it,” Gandhi said.
The former Congress president once again defended a caste census, stating that it will reveal everything about the situation of people and change the direction of politics in the country, according to the PTI report.
Gandhi said the Congress government will launch the `Pehli Naukri Pakki` plan to ensure young people get a year of apprenticeships in companies and then a job. The scheme states that during the training period, the youth will receive an allowance of Rs 8,500 per month, which is equivalent to Rs 1 lakh in a year.
Gandhi also said that once his party comes to power, he will start transferring Rs 8,500 a month to women’s accounts to convert them into ‘lakhpati’, the report said.
The Congress has fielded former Union minister Kantilal Bhuria against BJP’s Anita Nagar Chauhan.
