Punjab BJP on Saturday lodged a complaint with the state chief electoral officer (CEO) against the chief secretary and other erring officials for allegedly forcing MGNREGA workers to work despite there being a mandatory holiday across Punjab due to the general elections. of India 2024.
On BJP Punjab’s complaint to the CEO, the CEO directed all developing countries to ensure they cast their votes. In a letter dated June 1, Suneel Dutt Bhardwaj, secretary of the BJP’s Punjab office, urged quick action against the chief secretary and other erring officials of the state of Punjab. Furthermore, it is prayed that employees under MGNREGA will be allowed to exercise their right to vote in the state of Punjab.
BJP Punjab said in a letter: “Through various reports we have come to know that people who are employed under the MNREGA scheme in the state of Punjab are being forced to work even though there is a mandatory holiday across Punjab instead of general elections for Lok”. Sabha 2024 and other states to cast the vote, therefore, the action of the department/Government violates the provisions of the Representation of the People Act and the right to vote provided under the Constitution of India.”
Notably, all 13 parliamentary constituencies of Punjab voted in the last phase of the Lok Sabha elections on Saturday. The seventh and final phase on June 1 witnessed voting in the constituencies of Gurudaspur, Amritsar, Khadoor Sahib, Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Nandpur Sahib, Ludhiana, Fatehgarh Sahib, Faridkot, Firozpur, Bathinda, Sangrur and Patiala. Voting for the 2024 Indian General Elections took place in seven phases over 44 days, from April 19 to June 1. The recount will take place and the results will be declared on June 4.
