Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar) chief Sharad Pawar was attacked on Monday Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying that power has been centralized in the hands of Modi. While addressing a rally in Baramati ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, Pawar also said that Prime Minister Modi has been taking action against those who have spoken against him.

According to the ANI report, while addressing the rally, Pawar said that during his tenure as Union Agriculture Minister, he had helped the first Minister who was at that time the Chief Minister of Gujarat. But now the same person (Narendra Modi) is making comments against him.

“When I was Union Agriculture Minister, I helped the then CM of Gujarat, Narendra Modi, without any bias. Once, after visiting Baramati, he (PM Modi) said that everything he did (in Gujarat) was “It was because Pawar taught me by holding my finger. But today the same person takes a different stand and makes personal comments against me,” Pawar said.

Pawar further alleged that the prime minister took action against those who spoke against him and listed Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal as victims of a political vendetta. “This is not democracy, it is dictatorship. Today power is centralized in the hands of Modi, we have to take it away from him,” Pawar said, according to an ANI report.

The Baramati Lok Sabha seat has become a prominent seat for both Mahayuti and Maha Vikas Aghadi in Maharashtra. Baramati is the hometown and political stronghold of the Pawar family. Since the NCP split, the fight is over who will retain power in Baramati.

The Mahayuti has fielded Ajit Pawar’s wife Sunetra Pawar from Baramati Lok Sabha constituency against Maha Vikas Aghadi candidate’s daughter Sharad Pawar and sitting MP Supriya Sule. The fight is between the sisters-in-law and it remains to be seen who will stay in power. Sule’s cousin Ajit Pawar is the sitting MLA from Baramati.
