Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a five kilometer long mega tour in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh on Monday afternoon.
Prime Minister Modi will file his nomination from the Varanasi Lok Sabha seat tomorrow.
Before starting the tour, Prime Minister Modi paid floral tribute to the statue of Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya at the Lanka Gate of Banaras Hindu University.
He was accompanied by UP Chief Minister Yogi Adiyanath and other Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders.
Images from the scene showed an exuberant crowd gathering along the route and on terraces to see the Prime Minister.
Along the way there were performances with women dancing and men carrying the party flag in their hands.
After the roadshow, the prime minister will also seek the blessings of Baba Vishwanath at the Kashi Vishwanath temple, where he will conclude the procession after gracefully passing through the city.
Amidst a vibrant exhibition, the tour highlighted the remarkable achievements of the central government over the last decade, resonating with promises kept and milestones achieved.
The hundred designated points along the five kilometer route in the temple town, including Assi, Sonarpura, Jangambari and Godaulia, were arranged to extend a warm welcome to the Prime Minister.
Varanasi is the bastion of the Bharatiya Janata Party and Prime Minister Modi. He won the seat twice – the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
The Congress has pitted Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Ajay Rai against Prime Minister Modi in Varanasi. This is the third time that Ajay Rai will take on Prime Minister Modi in a Lok Sabha contest.
Voting in Varanasi will be held on June 1 in the seventh phase. In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, Prime Minister Modi won the seat by over 674,664 votes and got a vote share of 63.6 per cent. In 2014, Prime Minister Modi contested two Lok Sabha seats: Vadodara of Gujarat and Varanasi of Uttar Pradesh.
