Mamata’s ‘magic’ continues in West Bengal, BJP fails to achieve its goal
Defying all exit poll predictions, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has taken a lead in 29 of West Bengal’s 42 Lok Sabha seats, dealing a blow to the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) target of securing 35 seats as they had just achieved. barely reach double digits.
The BJP was leading with 12 seats according to the EC website.
Three years after stopping the BJP’s advances in Bengal, the TMC, led by Mamata Banerjee, once again proved its worth by thwarting the formidable campaign of the BJP, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself.
Despite facing a barrage of challenges, including allegations of corruption and internal strife, the TMC stood firm even after opting to go it alone following its withdrawal from the INDIA bloc in the state.
Political observers point out that the BJP in West Bengal had set an ambitious target of securing 35 seats in the Lok Sabha, banking on the implementation of the CAA as a possible turning point and taking advantage of Hindu polarisation, which fell flat on their faces.
Despite their fervent efforts, they failed to gain substantial ground, mainly due to internal divisions, organizational fragilities and the formidable impact of the Left-Congress alliance, analysts said, PTI reported.
