Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday launched a scathing attack on the Congress and its ally, the ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu, over the statements by Katchatheevu and `Shakti`, accusing them of keeping the “country in the dark” on the issue of island and accusing them of mistreatment of women.

He singled out the DMK for alleged corruption, saying the Dravidian party had the “first copyright” on the issue and added that the “family” intended to loot the state, in an apparent reference to the party’s first family. headed by its president and Chief Minister, MK Stalin.

“The DMK has the first copyright on corruption, the entire family is looting Tamil Nadu,” he said at an election rally here, while seeking votes for NDA candidates, including BJP nominees for the Lok Sabha elections. on April 19 in the state.

He also accused the DMK of being “a family business” that with its “old mentality” was hindering the progress of the youth of the state.

“DMK divides people on the basis of language, region, faith and caste. DMK knows that the day people realize this, they will not get a single vote. I have decided to expose DMK’s decades-old dangerous policies” , Modi, whose BJP is waging a spirited fight to make significant electoral gains in the Dravidian heartland, said.

Once again pointing his guns at the Congress and the DMK, who were in power at the Center and in the state respectively, in 1974, when the Katchatheevu islet was ceded to Sri Lanka, he asked at which cabinet meeting the such a decision and to “benefit” whom. Congress had not provided answers to these questions.

After their handover, Indian fishermen from Tamil Nadu were arrested and their boats confiscated and the “Congress and the DMK show false compassion” towards them, he alleged.

However, the NDA government was ensuring his “permanent release” even as it saved five fishermen from hanging in Sri Lanka, Modi said.

Attacking the Congress over “Prince Rahul Gandhi’s” comments on Shakti, Modi claimed that the former was talking about “destroying Shakti of the Hindu faith”.

“That is also the mentality of the DMK. They speak ill of Sanatana Dharma, they boycott the inauguration of the Ram temple (in Ayodhya),” as well as the installation of the “holy Sengol” in the new Parliament building, he added.

INDI alliance people “mistreat” women and everyone knows how the DMK treated the late “Amma Jayalalithaa”, when she was alive.

“Your blessings to the BJP and NDA will protect Sanatan Shakti and ensure honor of women,” the prime minister said.

Addressing the DMK, he said it had “three criteria: family politics, corruption and anti-Tamil culture”.

He alleged that DMK indulged in corruption with the “billions of rupees that we (the Centre) give for the growth of Tamil Nadu”.

“Sand smugglers have been found to have caused a loss of Rs 4.6 billion to Tamil Nadu,” he said.

The DMK did not “prevent the future” of the youth in the face of the alleged drug menace in the state, as even schoolchildren were affected.

“It should be known with which family the drug peddler arrested by NCB has links. People of Tamil Nadu will seek answers,” he said.

Modi was apparently referring to the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) arresting Jaffer Sadiq, a DMK functionary expelled last month for his alleged involvement in smuggling about 3,500 kg of pseudoephedrine with a street value of more than 2,000 crores.

The NCB has said that Sadiq’s links with Tamil and Hindi film financiers, some “high-profile” people and some cases of “political financing” were under its scanner.

Modi listed out the various measures in different sectors, such as air and rail, aimed at Vellore.

He said the BJP and the NDA were getting “huge support in Tamil Nadu” and recalled their various pro-Tamil initiatives such as the Kashi Tamil Sangamam. He had spoken in Tamil at the UN to highlight to the world that it was the oldest language.

He said that before 2014, when his government first came to power, no big or small decisions would be taken regarding the economy and “there would only be news of scams. It was said that the Indian economy could fail at any time.”

Over the decade, the NDA has laid the foundation for a “developed Bharat”, Modi said. The country is now emerging as a global power.

He sought NDA candidates from Vellore and Dharmapuri, AC Shanmugam and Soumya Anbumani respectively, besides others including C Narasimhan (Krishnagiri) and A Ashwathaman (Tiruvannamalai) of the BJP.

“Every vote in favor of the NDA will be a guarantee for the future of Tamil Nadu,” he said.
