On Wednesday, more than 100 schools in the Delhi-NCR area received bomb threat emails, causing shock and fear. Despite extensive searches by police, no harmful material was found. Authorities asked the public to remain calm. Local police quickly responded to the threatening emails, prompting the evacuation of schools. The Delhi Fire Service reported receiving 97 calls from various schools till noon on Wednesday, all of which were promptly attended to, PTI reported.
“Some schools in Delhi have received emails regarding bomb threats. Delhi Police has carried out a thorough inspection of all such schools as per protocol. Nothing objectionable has been found. It appears that these calls appear to be a hoax. We request the public not to panic and maintain peace,” Delhi Police said.
According to the report, the fake emails were not limited to Delhi; Several private institutions in Noida and Greater Noida received identical threats. However, the Home Office told the public there was no need to panic.
There is no need to panic. The emails appear to be a scam. “Delhi Police and security agencies are taking necessary action as per protocol,” a Home Ministry official told PTI.
Delhi Police conducted extensive searches at all affected schools but found no evidence of any danger. The emails appear to come from a single source and were intended for schools in Delhi and surrounding areas, the report added.
Authorities emphasized that the content of the threatening emails was the same across all institutions, indicating a coordinated effort to instill fear.
Both the Union Home Ministry and the Noida Police Department dismissed the threats as hoaxes and urged residents not to worry. Shivhari Meena, additional commissioner of police, verified that all schools that received the emails had been thoroughly investigated and deemed safe, the report added.
“This morning a chain of schools received a threatening email, following which police teams responded to the situation immediately. All schools that received threats were thoroughly checked and disinfected. Nowhere has such a thing (threat) come to light light and it is proven that the email was sent to create a rumour,” said CP Meena.
According to the report, Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena and Education Minister Atishi reassured parents about safety precautions and urged them to cooperate with authorities. Despite the assurances, worried parents rushed to schools to pick up their children.
“He directed the Delhi Police to carry out a thorough search of the school premises, identify the culprits and ensure that there were no mistakes. The miscreants and culprits will not be spared,” VK Saxena said.
Emergency vehicles, including fire trucks and ambulances, were parked in front of the schools. To ensure security, bomb detection teams and sniffer dogs thoroughly searched the premises, the PTI report said.
While some schools issued urgent instructions to parents to pick up their students, others received queries from concerned guardians about safety precautions, PTI reported.
Police investigations found that similar emails had been received at multiple sites since Tuesday, indicating a pattern of coordinated threats, according to the report.
