After scoring a zero in the Lok Sabha polls, Bahujan Samaj Party president Mayawati on Wednesday said that despite the party giving her “adequate representation” in the elections, the Muslim community is not able to understand to the BSP.
In future, the party will give the community an electoral opportunity only after giving it a lot of thought, he said.
The BSP also did not open its account in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. However, it won 10 seats in the 2019 election, in which it had fought in alliance with the Samajwadi Party.
Mayawati in a statement said her party will do a “deep analysis” of the defeat and take all necessary measures in the interest of the party.
He expressed gratitude to the Dalit community, especially the Jatavs, for supporting the party, but also expressed his discontent towards the Muslims.
“The Muslim community, which is an important part of the Bahujan Samaj Party, is not able to properly understand the BSP despite having adequate representation in the last elections and this time also in the Lok Sabha general elections.
“So, in such a situation, the party will give them a chance in the elections after giving it a lot of thought so that the party does not suffer a big loss in future like this time,” Mayawati said.
The BSP had fielded 35 Muslim candidates, the maximum, in the last general elections.
He said that since the results are known, it is up to the country’s future leaders to think about the country’s democracy, its interests and the Constitution.
Mayawati also raised objection to the elections being held in extreme heat conditions and objected to the long electoral process that can be exhausting for common people as well as hundreds of thousands of government employees deployed on electoral duties.
The elections should be held in three or four phases at most, he added.
