On Monday, the president of the PPD Mufti Mehbooba urged the voters of Jammu and Kashmir to express their discontent over the revocation of Article 370 of the Constitution by voting in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections of 2024. While addressing a gathering in Larkipora area of Anantnag district, the Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir said “This is not an Assembly election. It is not about whether the PDP, the National Conference or the Congress will win. The Bharatiya Janata Party-led Center repealed the provisions of Article 370, which gave special rights to Jammu and Kashmirin August 2019 and divided the erstwhile state into Union Territories.
Mufti said that Jammu and Kashmir has gone through very difficult times in the past and the current situation is also difficult.
“The people of Jammu and Kashmir have witnessed difficult times in the past. Those did not last and neither will this (situation), but only if we fight together through peaceful and democratic means,” he said.
Mufti said people might have been upset with the Popular Democratic Party (PPD) for some time but they realize that the party has saved them from the task force, Ikhwan counterinsurgency group and POTA.
“It was during the tenure of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed (the former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir and father of Mehbooba Mufti) that a new era of development began, a process of dialogue between India and Pakistan began and there seemed to be some movement on issues key,” he said.
