A massive cordon and search operation is underway to locate the terrorists responsible for the attack on a passenger bus in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district that left nine dead and 41 injured, officials said on Monday. Teams from the National Investigation Agency (NIA), State Investigation Agency (SIA) and forensic department visited the site of the terror attack and launched an investigation, they said.
On Sunday, terrorists opened fire on the 53-seater bus carrying pilgrims while it was heading from Shiv Khori temple to Mata Vaishno Devi shrine at Katra, near Teryath village in Poni area. The bus sank into the deep gorge after the shots were fired.
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha visited injured passengers at GMC and Narayana hospitals on Monday and said the terror attack was part of a nefarious design to sow unrest in the Jammu region. Such attempts will be thwarted, he said. The Director General of Police (DGP) along with senior officers, including the Army, is expected to visit the spot to get first-hand information about the incident.
Hurriyat condemns terrorist attack
The Hurriyat Conference condemned the terrorist attack on a bus carrying pilgrims in Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir. The Hurriyat Conference expressed grief over the incident in Reasi, where nine pilgrims died when the bus carrying them fell into a gorge after being attacked by terrorists. “The Hurriyat Conference has condemned and will always condemn all forms of violence against humanity. The loss of precious human lives due to murder is deeply disturbing,” the amalgam stated.
