In response to the ethnic violence that has gripped Manipur since May 2023, the state government has mobilized proactive initiatives aimed at providing relief and rehabilitation to conflict-affected displaced people under the guidance of the Supreme Court-appointed committee appointed on last year in August. Officials said these initiatives encompass a multi-faceted approach targeting various aspects of livelihood and well-being in a bid to provide tangible support.
Headed by Justice (retd) Gita Mittal, the committee inaugurated a training program for 2,000 displaced youth, along with a Level 1 youth coaching certification program which aims to train 300 youth as coaches in multiple sporting disciplines, including football. , table tennis, badminton, judo and weightlifting.
Additionally, a primary health center was also operationalized in PPP mode at Palace Auditorium, Imphal, in collaboration with the state government and Apollo Hospital Enterprise, Hyderabad, using telemedicine facilities. Justice Mittal emphasized that while the state administration has effectively provided facilities for the displaced people, the main challenge remains to ensure their safe return to their homes.
