Police have arrested seven people for allegedly killing a 38-year-old man over a feud in Maharashtra’s Gondia district, officials said, news agency PTI reported.
The incident took place on Monday night when the man, Rohit alias Golu Hariprasad Tiwari, was heading towards Kudwa Chowk on his two-wheeler, officials said on Tuesday, PTI reported.
The defendants, who were traveling on two motorcycles, followed him. One of them allegedly opened fire on Tiwari, an official said, PTI reported.
The bullet passed through the man’s chest. On getting information, his brother and some other people rushed him to a hospital where he succumbed during treatment, police said, PTI reported.
Based on a complaint filed by the deceased’s brother, the police registered the case and arrested the seven accused, PTI reported.
They were booked under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code and other relevant provisions, the police added.
In another case, a 61-year-old man accused of murder who had been on the run for 34 years was arrested in Thane district of Maharashtra, police said on Tuesday, PTI reported.
Based on a tip-off, police laid a trap and detained the accused, Jahangir Dinmohammad Sheikh, from the western suburb of Andheri in neighboring Mumbai on Monday night, an official said, PTI reported.
The accused was involved in a murder that took place in a residential building on Mira Road in December 1990, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Madan Ballal of MBVV police.
Sheikh is one of the six accused involved in stabbing and killing the victim, Gabrial alias Sudhakar Kristan Amanna (22), during a party, he said, PTI reported.
Police had earlier arrested five accused in the case, while Sheikh remained absconding since then, the official said.
