Two buildings of a chemical company were destroyed in a fire in Gondia, Maharashtra, on Saturday, an official said, news agency PTI reported.
The unit is located in Fulchur and the fire, which started at 7:30 a.m., was put out four hours later, he said.
“Properties worth Rs 50 lakh were destroyed. One of the owners of the premises, Pradyuman Bajaj, sustained injuries while trying to control the fire and has been hospitalised,” he said, PTI reported.
Prime facie, the fire could have been caused by a short circuit, the official added.
Speaking to PTI, Avinash Bajaj, part of the family that owns the unit, said two warehouses containing raw materials such as resin, packaging items and chemical drums were destroyed.
In another incident, a 3-year-old boy died and five were injured after a fire broke out in a house in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, an official said on Saturday, PTI reported.
The incident took place around 8.30 pm on Friday at Sharif Colony in Kiradpura area of the city.
Forensic teams deployed by the police are investigating the case, he said.
“There were seven adults and two-three children in the house. Prima facie, it appears that the fire started due to a cylinder explosion,” the official said, PTI reported.
Although Sadaf Irfan Shaikh (3) died in the accident, Rizwan Khan (40), Rehan Shaikh (17), Adil Khan (10), Faizan Pathan (13) and Dishan Khan (9) sustained injuries, he said, adding that the The injured have been admitted to the city’s Government Medical College and Hospital, PTI reported.
Meanwhile, four people were injured in a fire that broke out and spread to some shops after a leak in a gas pipeline in the western suburb of Juhu here on Friday, a civic official said, PTI reported.
A leak in the Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) pipeline caused a fire around 11:55 am, the official said, PTI reported.
The fire spread to three businesses and was extinguished by firefighters around 12:20 p.m. MGL staff plugged the gas leak, he said.
Four people suffered superficial burns and were rushed to Cooper Hospital, and their condition is said to be stable, the official said, PTI reported.
An MGL spokesperson said the gas pipeline was damaged when a contractor was carrying out excavation work for a nullah on AB Nair Road, PTI reported.
“As a safety measure, the gas supply has been temporarily stopped in the surrounding area and will be restored at 8:00 p.m.,” he said.
