The base of a Lord Shiv temple was discovered during conservation work in Hottal village of Nanded district, PTI reported quoting an official on Tuesday.
Hottal is known for its Chalukyan era temples. The village has found three stone inscriptions mentioning the contributions of donors who helped build these temples around 1070 AD, the official added.
According to the PTI report, this area, which was once the capital of Kalyani Chalukyas, is famous for its temple complex adorned with intricate sculptures.
As part of the ongoing conservation work on some of these historic temples, a team of officials from the archeology department discovered the base of the temple while clearing debris near a temple under restoration.
“Four trenches were dug to determine the structure and the base of a temple of Lord Shiv, complete with a Shivling, was discovered. Additionally, we found a substantial quantity of bricks, indicating that bricks were used in the construction of the temple here,” Amol Gote, the head of the Nanded division of the state Archeology Department, told PTI.
Maharashtra: Palghar liquor store robbed; Rs 5 lakh in shares and cash stolen
Two unidentified persons allegedly broke into a liquor shop in Palghar district of Maharashtra and stole shares and cash totaling Rs 5 lakh from the establishment, police said on Monday, news agency PTI reported.
The incident took place on Saturday at Palghar Liquor Shop located at Mastan Naka in Manor area, they said.
The robbers fled with liquor of various brands and cash kept in the Palghar liquor shop, the Manor police station official said, PTI reported.
Based on a complaint by the manager of Palghar liquor shop, the police on Saturday registered an FIR against unidentified persons under sections 380 (theft) and 457 (trespass or trespass) of the Indian Penal Code, he said.
In another case, a 22-year-old Thane man was arrested after seizing mephedrone worth Rs 8.25 lakh from his possession in Thane district of Maharashtra, an official said on Monday, news agency PTI reported.
After receiving a tip-off, crime branch sleuths laid a trap near a hospital on Khandupada road on Friday night and nabbed the man with drugs in Thane. He was found to be carrying 165 grams of contraband, the Shantinagar police station official said, PTI reported.
A case was registered against the accused under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act on Saturday while another person was being sought in connection with drugs in Thane, he said, PTI reported.
Police were trying to find out where the accused got the contraband and to whom he intended to sell it, the official said.
