Union minister and BJP Lok Sabha candidate from Nagpur Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday released his own manifesto, outlining his vision for Nagpur for the next five years. Nagpur, which is located in the Vidharbha region of Maharashtra, will vote for Lok Sabha elections in the first phase on Friday, April 19.

Gadkari in his election manifesto `Nagpur Sankalp Patra`, promised to create one lakh jobs in the next five years if re-elected and would put the urban constituency of Maharashtra among the top five cities in terms of development and cleanliness, the news service reported. According to the PTI report, Gadkari also said that with the help of the state and central governments he will help give property rights to unauthorized slum residents in regularization and help them in construction of new houses. He added that 100 gardens will be built in various parts of Nagpur, including the existing ones which will be renovated.

In a press conference after the publication of the document, three days before the elections, the senior BJP leader, 66, also spoke of the work done by him as an MP in the last ten years. Gadkari emphasized that in his third term he will work to make Nagpur “sundar and swachh” (beautiful and clean) and place it among the top five cities of the country in terms of development, sanitation and hygiene, PTI reported.

Union Transport Minister Gadkari said his priorities will be setting up truck terminals, metro gauge lanes, new four-lane railways and logistics parks in Nagpur, among other initiatives.

Nagpur is considered the second capital of Maharashtra and also popularly known as the ‘orange city’ as it mainly produces oranges. The city will not face water scarcity till 2070 and 25 lakh orange saplings will also be planted, Gadkari said.

Gadkari fought the Lok Sabha polls from Nagpur for the first time in 2014 and defeated the seven-time Congress MP with a high margin of votes. He retained the seat by defeating incumbent Congress state president Nana Patole in 2019. In this election, Congress has fielded Vikas Thakre against Gadkari.
