The ruling BJP appears headed for a landslide victory in Madhya Pradesh, having so far won 19 of the 29 Lok Sabha seats with Union ministers Jyotiraditya Scindia, Faggan Singh Kulaste and Virendra Kumar emerging victorious.
The BJP leads in 10 other seats with its candidates’ margin ranging between 63,000 and 8.21 lakh, according to the Election Commission of India website.
Notably, the BJP managed to breach the former Congress citadel of Chhindwara, which it failed to capture in the 2019 elections, when it won 28 seats.
If the BJP manages to win all 29 seats, it will become the first political party to achieve such a feat after 40 years in Madhya Pradesh.
NOTE creates record
Sitting BJP MP from Indore Shankar Lalwani won a record margin of 11,75,092 votes in a contest where NOTA created a record with 2.18 lakh voters opting for the NOTA option.
