Hollywood star Jeremy Rennerwho appeared in two Mission: Impossible films, including Mission: Impossible—Ghost Protocol (2011) and Mission: Impossible—Rogue Nation (2015), has spoken out about why he declined to star in Mission: Impossible—Fallout (2018).
Renner, who was asked to reprise the character of IMF agent William Brandt in Fallout, spoke during a podcast that he was offered a role that required him to film for a week so his character, Brandt, could die. “I remember they tried to bring me [seas] For a week so they could kill off my character, and I was like, ‘No, you can’t do that.’ You’re not going to drag me there and just kill my character,’” Renner said. “If you’re going to do this and you’re going to use my character, you’re going to do it right. I yelled at [director Christopher McQuarrie]. Friend, you’re not going to do this to me like that; “You’re not going to hurt me,” Renner added.
The actor never returned to the Mission Impossible franchise after Rogue Nation, although he said in an interview that he would be open to returning.
