Let us tell you that Dr. Yogesh Chandra Paul was brutally murdered inside his house on Friday. His wife Dr. Neena Paul found her husband’s body inside the kitchen. The accused entered the house of Dr. Yogesh, who had returned home from his clinic at 1.30 in the afternoon, tied his hands, gagged him and strangled him to death. Before the murder, the accused had locked his pet dog inside the bathroom. After the incident, the accused fled with cash and gold jewellery.
Investigating officers said that Basanti, Varsha and Sai had planned to commit burglary in another house on the first floor of the same building, but they failed. The victim’s family lived on the upper ground floor. The officer said he had sent his partner Varsha to the first floor, but they could not execute their plan as the house was full of family members.
Police said Varsha had visited the victim’s house at least three times before the incident. During investigation, we found that Basanti brought Varsha and told the couple that she would clean the utensils. Varsha came home thrice from March 15 to April. Another investigating officer said that Varsha would often make video calls to her friends and once she was caught entering the bedroom and opening a cupboard, the couple fired her. Basanti had called him to make home videos and help other accused. The women were also planning to loot some jewelery and small cash for themselves.
Another investigating officer said that Basanti used to make video calls to her colleagues every day. He also created a private/locked Facebook account and posted photos of his rooms and home with his partners. She had been doing this for two-three months. Police said a theft had occurred in the same building in 2017 and they were investigating whether Basanti and his associates were involved in that case.
DCP (South East) Rajesh Dev said that Basanti had called his colleagues to Delhi on May 5 to do Reiki. After this they returned home and came back with three Nepali citizens on 7 May. The DCP said that all the other accused are absconding. Varsha is also absconding. The gang stayed in a small hotel in Sarai Kale Khan and followed the doctor on the day of the incident. They killed him when he was alone at his home. The family has told the police that around Rs 4 to 5 lakh and 100 grams of gold jewelery are missing from the house.
