Three people were injured after a fire broke out on Monday in the zonal office building of a public sector bank in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district, an official said.
They were rescued from the smoke-filled three-story office building in Baripada, but were unconscious at the time, he said.
The injured were admitted to the PRM Medical College and Hospital here and their condition is said to be stable, the official said, adding that others who were in the office came out safely.
Two fire units intervened to put out the fire, which was first detected around 1 pm, said assistant fire and emergency services officer Bhabendra Nath Dey.
The fire is suspected to have broken out in the canteen of the Bank of India’s zonal office, located on the third floor of the building, he said.
It took almost three hours to put out the fire, the official said, adding that an investigation has been launched and the exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
Firefighters had difficulty carrying out the operation because heavy smoke engulfed the office building, he added.
