Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 23.9 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, news agency PTI reported. The temperature is slightly below the season average in the city. The maximum temperature is likely to settle around 41 degrees Celsius, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted. Meanwhile, humidity was recorded at 55 per cent at 8.30 am, the report said.
Delhi-NCR experienced a major storm, strong winds and rain last week on Friday night, after days of scorching heat. Neighboring areas like Noida and Ghaziabad also experienced unexpected violent dust storms.
Climate in other places
Western parts of the country also suffered from dust storms and unseasonable rain on Monday.
Heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorm and gusty winds caused a dust storm-like situation in Mumbai on Monday, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a warning for the district. The weather conditions reduced visibility in many areas and also caused some damage, including falling trees and collapsing fences. Power outages were reported in Matunga, Dadar and Prabhadevi.
The IMD also raised its yellow alert to orange for Thane and Satara, where heavy downpours were witnessed. Several areas of Thane district including Kalyan, Ambernath, Diva and Mumbra experienced heavy rainfall, while eastern suburbs of Mumbai saw light drizzle.
Unseasonal rain was witnessed in some parts of Gujarat, while strong winds accompanied by a dust storm hit Ahmedabad on Monday. The weather service predicted light rain and thunderstorms in several districts for the next three days. Ahmedabad witnessed a sudden change in weather on Monday night, when strong winds and a dust storm accompanied by light rain at night reduced visibility in the city. Billboards were damaged in Ahmedabad and a mobile phone tower was dismantled in Gandhinagar, with no casualties reported.
The sudden change in weather also brought relief from the stifling heat. Similar conditions were witnessed in other parts of the state including Amreli, Banaskantha and Sabarkantha, while in some regions the rains were accompanied by hail.
