Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Tuesday mourned the death of 14 people and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured after a large fence collapsed in Mumbai’s Ghatkopar area.

“Deeply pained by the tragic incident in which several people lost their lives due to the collapse of a fence in Ghatkopar, Mumbai. Our deepest condolences to the families of the victims. Several people were injured and we pray for their full and speedy recovery. ” Kharge posted on X.
Furthermore, he expressed his solidarity with all the victims and urged the authorities to provide immediate medical assistance to the injured.

Ghatkopar hoarding collapse: Death toll rises to 14
National Disaster Rescue Force Deputy Commander Nikhil Mudholkar said a total of 88 people were rescued, of whom 14 were declared dead by doctors, ANI reported.
“In total 88 people were rescued, of whom 14 were declared dead by doctors and 31 were discharged… The problem is that we cannot use our gasoline-based cutting equipment because there is a gasoline pump here. “Two NDRF teams are present here,” he said, ANI reported.
Notably, Mumbai Police has registered a case under IPC 304, 338, 337 and 34 against owner Bhavesh Bhinde and others at Pantnagar police station.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde also announced an ex-gratia amount of Rs 5 lakh to the family members of the deceased. Shinde also said that the government will bear all the expenses of treatment of the injured.
President Droupadi Murmu and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar condoled the death of the people and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.

Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar has said that strict action will be taken against those responsible for the hoarding collapse incident in the city.
Phansalkar visited the spot on Monday night, where he spoke to reporters and assured that action would be taken against those responsible for the incident.
