Maharashtra Governor Ramesh Bais is scheduled to meet a Congress delegation led by Nana Patole, the party’s state president.
According to sources, important issues of the state will be discussed during the meeting, ANI reported.
Earlier this week, speaking to ANI, the Maharashtra Congress chief said the party has prepared the strategy for the upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections and expressed confidence that the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) would win with an absolute majority in the assembly elections.
The Maharashtra assembly elections are expected to be held in October 2024 as the term of the current state assembly ends this year, ANI reported.
In the Lok Sabha elections, the Congress Party marginally improved its seat share in the state by bagging 13 seats, while the BJP fell to nine seats from 23 in the 2019 general elections. The BJP’s vote share was 26.18 percent.
In Maharashtra, the ruling Mahayuti tripartite alliance, including the BJP, managed to win 17 seats, while the opposition alliance, Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA), which includes the Congress, won 30 of the 48 seats across the Indian state. western.
NCP chief Ajit Pawar, who is part of the Mahayuti alliance with the BJP, said his party would get a cabinet berth in Narendra Modi’s team within two months. He said that by then the party would have added two more Rajya Sabha MPs, ANI reported.
The NCP’s non-participation in the Union Council of Ministers had raised speculations of infighting within the party and negligence on the part of the BJP. Opposition leaders said the BJP wanted to do away with Ajit Pawar’s party.
Stating that all is not lost for the party and that they must fight against adversity, he said: “Prime Minister Modi-ji told us that he wanted to give us a position, but that of a state minister with an independent position.”
“We also told him that we would remain in the NDA even without a seat,” Pawar said.
According to sources, the BJP has promised the NCP a Rajya Sabha seat which its newly elected Lok Sabha member Udayanraje Bhonsale will vacate. One more RS seat held by BJP’s Piyush Goyal will be up for grabs in the bypolls.
