A court on Sunday ordered preventive detention of the parents of a 17-year-old boy allegedly involved in the Car accident in Pune detained until June 5 in a case of destruction of evidence, PTI reported.
According to PTI, the duo is being investigated for their alleged role in tampering with the minor’s blood sample following the May 19 car accident in Pune city, Maharashtra, which claimed the lives of two IT professionals.
The boy’s mother, Shivani Agarwal, was reportedly arrested on June 1, after it was revealed that the boy’s blood samples were replaced with her own.
The police had taken custody of his father, real estate agent Vishal Agrawal, arrested earlier in a related case, for alleged involvement in destruction of evidence.
The police produced the duo before a vacation court in Pune city, Maharashtra, and sought their remand, which was allowed till June 5.
Police told the court that the Agarwal couple conspired and destroyed evidence related to the accident, according to PTI.
They went to a state hospital and manipulated the minor’s blood samples, according to the police.
The couple’s lawyer Prashant Patil claimed that the police have already searched their house and recovered the footage from the security cameras installed at their place.
They have been booked under IPC section 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence), which is a bailable offence. Therefore, they should be sent to judicial custody, Patil said.
In addition to the boy’s parents, police also arrested his grandfather Surendra Agarwal for allegedly kidnapping the family driver and pressuring him to take the blame for the accident, among other charges.
The other people in police custody are two doctors at Sassoon State General Hospital and an employee for allegedly exchanging blood samples from the minor.
He police They have registered three separate cases in connection with the car accident. The three cases include one FIR in connection with the accident and the second against the bar that allegedly served liquor to the minor.
The police have arrested the boy’s father for allowing him to drive the car without a valid licence.
A third case concerns improper confinement and coercion of the family driver to take the blame for the accident.
