Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday demanded that the Congress apologize to the country, news agency ANI reported.
His move comes after Congress’s Sam Pitroda sparked controversy by making remarks on India’s diversity on Wednesday.
Talking to ANI, Yogi said, “He (Sam Pitroda) is the ‘buddhidata’ of the Congress and is displaying the party’s policy of divide and rule. The Congress is responsible for partition in 1947, it is responsible for the horrors of partition .Even after independence, it has committed the sin of dividing the country in the name of castes, regions and languages. Sam Pitroda’s remark is very condemnable. The Congress party should apologize to the country for the things that Sam Pitroda is doing. . say.”
Describing the Congress mentality as dangerous, the Uttar Pradesh CM added: “The way the Congress is trying to divide the four parts (north, south, east and west) of the country on the basis of skin color shows the mentality “dangerous of Congress.” “It is very shameful and condemnable. Sam Pitroda’s statement also insults the 140 crore Indians and Congress should apologize for it.”
Pitroda, in an interview to The Statesman, while reflecting on democracy in India, said: “We have survived 75 years in a very happy environment where people could live together, putting aside a few fights here and there. We could celebrate a “A country as diverse as India, where the people in the East look Chinese, the people in the West look Arab, the people in the North look white, and maybe the people in the South look African.”
Late Wednesday afternoon, Sam Pitroda resigned as head of the Overseas Indian Congress after his racist statement sparked controversy among both allies and the opposition.
