Hollywood star Hugh Jackman has recalled how kindly Marvel boss Kevin Feige treated him after his “disappointing” audition for the role of superhero Wolverine. Jackman told Entertainment Weekly that he was absolutely convinced he had blown his audition for the role in the 2000 film X-Men.

Feige, the head of Marvel Studios, was then a production assistant. He invited Jackman to dinner with him and the screenwriter, and then drove him to the airport. “I said, Kevin, we all know I’m not going to get the part. You don’t have to go to dinner. But no, he sat there and had a steak dinner with me and then drove me to the airport. I’ll never forget that. That was the sweetest thing. I thought, I’ll never see him again.”

Jackman ended up as Wolverine, playing the character nine times before the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine.

The Hollywood star gained attention as Wolverine in the X-Men film series, earning him a Guinness World Record for “longest run as a live-action Marvel character” as of 2022.

Deadpool and Wolverinereunites Jackman alongside Ryan Reynolds in Disney’s first R-rated film and is estimated to gross $165 million over its July 26-28 opening weekend.
