What Is The New French Bill That Aims To Curb 'Scams' By Social Media Influencers?
A bill has been moved in the lower chamber of French parliament to impose certain rules and requirements for social media influencers.The bill will be moved to the Senate in the coming weeks where it is highly likely to be passed, The TechCrunch reported.
The bill, according to reports, defines who a paid influencer is. As per the bill, the influencers will need to disclose if they are using a filter and if their face and/or body have been photoshopped.
Further, the influencers cannot promote cosmetic surgery, financial products and services (including cryptocurrencies) and counterfeit products, the TechCrunch reported.
"This is how the sector will become more ethical," French lawmaker Arthur Delaporte, who helped introduce the bill, was quoted as saying by The Washington Post.
The influencers will also have to disclose of a certain content is a paid promotion. Violation of these rules can attract a fine of €300,000 and a jail term of upto 6 months
