While Indian audiences will have to wait some time before Monkey Man can hit theaters, Dev Patel’s first directorial venture is just a day away from its US release. On Wednesday, the action thriller had its premiere at the iconic Grauman’s Chinese Theater in Los Angeles. Sobhita Dhulipala and Sikandar Kher, who play pivotal roles in the film, flew in on April 2 to attend the premiere.
Before leaving for the United States, Kher spoke at noon and expressed his excitement about the event. She said: “I’m really excited to meet up with all the cast and crew and watch the film together at the premiere. We received a phenomenal response at SXSW. [South by Southwest Film Festival] last month. “Now there is a sense of excitement for the release of the film.” Kher and Dhulipala face a hectic week ahead as media interactions will begin today, followed by a team dinner. Over the next few days, the cast will travel around the United States promoting Monkey Man.
According to early reviews, Patel scored a winning score with his directorial debut. The violent action thriller follows the journey of a man, played by the actor and director, who embarks on a mission to avenge the death of his mother caused by corrupt leaders. His quest for revenge takes an unexpected turn when he becomes a defender of the oppressed.
