Singer Camila Cabello has spoken out about how she didn’t want her high-profile romance with ex-boyfriend and singer Shawn Mendes to define her.
Talking about his 2019 track `Miss“, he told Complex magazine: “I think there’s always a concern when a song becomes so massive that it’s going to be bigger than you.”
“Obviously, I love that they’ve been so big and successful, but that makes people attached to you in a certain way. I was in a very public relationship and, as a woman, you’re like, ‘I don’t want this relationship to be my new identity.”
The singer recently shared that her meeting with Mendes “didn’t sit well with her,” womanfirst.co.uk reports.
The two briefly reconciled in 2023 after their relationship ended two years earlier.
Reflecting on why it didn’t work the second time, he said: “You just think it doesn’t fit, it doesn’t feel right. And I think, fortunately, I was in a place in my life, it took me less time to realize that. A It took both of us less time to say, ‘This doesn’t feel right and we don’t need to work as hard to make it all work.’
Cabello had some kind words for her former love, labeling him “such a good person.”
“I will always care for him and love him. He’s a really good person and I’m lucky because some people have exes who are horrible, but he’s not. He’s a really kind and good person,” she added.
The singer said she can be “somewhat impulsive” when it comes to the idea of getting back with an ex, comparing it to Ryan Gosling in the 2004 drama “The Notebook.”
